hey there,

Thanks for stopping by!

I'm Hebe Zheng, a Product Designer, dog mom, dabbler of this-and-that, and problem solver. I have a deep appreciation for life's spontaneity and enjoy cooking like a grandma.

my mission

I strive to make a positive impact by designing tools that improve daily life and help others achieve their goals. I'm driven by the challenge of transforming complex problems into solutions that strike a perfect balance between simplicity, innovation, and ease of use.

Inspired by Charles Eames, I believe design is an expression of purpose and a method of action. As a designer, my curiosity and optimism enable me to notice things that are not quite working well and take the opportunity to transform them into something positive.

What drew me towards design is that design solves problems. Design and problems are opposite sides of the same equation. Again, inspired by Eames, the boundaries of design are those of the problems.

Q: What are the boundaries of design?
A: What are the boundaries of problems? - Charles Eames

Problems are living things, evolving alongside us as we continuously change the way we live. Once we solve one problem, another emerges—it's a happy, never-ending cycle.

Improving lives through the products I build is no small task, and it's not something I can do alone. I'm a passionate collaborator and actively seek feedback. I believe each person brings a unique perspective and plays a crucial role in the design process.

my background

I spent my early childhood in China before reuniting with my parents in the United States at age 7. Throughout my life, I've worked in the service industry—from taking orders at my parents' restaurant to working in cafes. I've always loved interacting with people and creating moments of joy for others.

As the first in my family to attend university, prioritizing job security was very important. Consequently, I graduated from the University of Georgia with what I considered the safest degree possible: Accounting. I then worked at Deloitte for three years, where I analyzed data, conducted research, and interviewed clients to find tax savings for Fortune 500 companies. Though I wasn't able to find fulfillment in my previous career, I value my time at Deloitte. It instilled in me essential soft skills and interpersonal abilities that I rely on heavily as a Designer today. Moreover, it gifted me with lifelong friends and mentors.

my self

Outside of design, I find joy in life's simple pleasures. I enjoy hanging out with my friends, embrace new experiences, find delight in cooking meals to share, and love playing with my dog.

I feed my curiosity by exploring new places, whether locally or in unfamiliar territories. When traveling, one of my favorite pastimes is sitting in a café, watching the world go by. I'm constantly in awe of the vastness of our world and the richness of the human experience.

The unexpected collision of Accounting & UX

The best thing that came out of my first career was the crash course in using spreadsheets. Nowadays, you'll find me using Google Sheets to delve into user data and success metrics, and occasionally even creating designs in Google Sheets.

Hebe's finances templateI designed a simple expense and income tracker template that utilizes basic formulas paired with pivot tables, and a dash of simple and clean spreadsheet design. 👩🏻🍳

Unlimited PTO GuideI designed and formulated a time-off calculator to help people with unlimited PTO to get a general sense on how many days they should take off each year. 🏔️🏝️
